When you balance yourself, don’t you often say “oh, I have a bad coordination!” because you have poor stability? How about when you experience something (e.g., pain, lost a job etc…) which you are not able to control by yourself, how would you adapt to the experience in order to center yourself with ease and comfort? Would it be better if you know how to coordinate your body and mind together in order to live your life better?
Sleep Better with Feldenkrais Method
Do you want to improve quality of your sleep? I just did a survey to my Instagram followers and asked what they want to improve in their life. I found out that many people were interested in improving quality of their sleep. The length of their sleep was 6-hr on the average. Despite the result showing many of them were satisfied with their sleep, the survey outcomes indicated these people are also interested in improving quality of their sleep.
Practice “Attention” and “Awareness” into Life with Feldenkrais Method
What is a difference between “attention” and “awareness” when we’re learning a new skill? They are different. A definition of “attention” is that we are present and deeply listening and asking to ourselves such as we pay “attention” to what we are doing (e.g. talking, cooking, singing, working etc...). In contrast, “awareness” is our outcomes/experiences of how we are doing from our attention of what we are doing.
Feeling the Floor, Connecting Yourself ~Flexibility of Body and Mind~
I will teach a series of Japanese ATM lessons from June 9th to July 7th (2021), called “Feeling the Floor, Connecting Yourself ~Flexibility of Body and Mind~.” The element of this series is composed by child development as known as “Baby Lessons” in Feldenkrais world while Feldenkrais Method is a movement based “learning process” (e.g., finding a way to improve performance or pain/limitations in one’s own way with ease and comfort). Two questions might arise: 1) how is child development related to human development?” and 2) how is each of our learning process during child development related to our current learning process/life?”
Improving Human Functioning ~Awareness of Body and Mind Unity with Feldenkrais Method~
What is “functioning” to us? Is it a way to live our life better by moving our body such as playing, walking, cooking or running? Or Is it a way to connect with our loved ones or others via talking, laughing, singing or smiling? There is no right or wrong answer to define “functioning” to us because each of us has a different way to live our life better. But when our “functioning” suddenly or gradually became “inefficient” as unnecessary “pain/tension” (e.g., emotionally and/or physically, conflict with others) was developed, how would we want to improve our functioning?
Improving in Voice with Feldenkrais Method
Have you ever paid attention to your “voice” when you’re singing or communicating with others? For example, when you sing high notes, does your whole body sense the sound without putting effort to your vocal cords? How do you sense the quality of your voice? How does your voice go smoothly to hit high notes? What do you sense at your chest when you sing low notes? What is the shape your mouth and your facial expression when you sing?
Blooming a Power of Creativity in Our 2021!
In 2020, our life was dramatically changed via COVID-19 pandemic. The most drastic change in our lifestyle was probably the establishment of “social distancing” in order to minimize spread of COVID-19. Although I wrote about the impact of “social distancing” in my June blog “Functional Integration, what is touch to us?,” disconnecting with people via “social distancing” has affected our self awareness as well as vitality in this moment.
What Is “Good Posture?”
What is “good posture” to us? How do we look like when we have “good posture?” When we make good posture, are we putting lots of intentional effort such as by “standing up straight,” “lifting chest up,” “bringing shoulder blades back and down,” “tightening core,” “tucking chin down” and/or “rolling pelvis back” etc…?
How is Feldenkrais Method different from therapeutic modalities?
When we want to improve our performance or physical condition such as chronic pain, do we feel like we’re doing something wrong with or without a reason? Do we seek an advice from an expert? When we share our goal with others, do we want to be guided by them?
